Others

According to CNN NEWS, “Kidney stones may be increasing among both men and women in the US, a new study says. “

The study about patients who have kidney stone had done from 1984 to 2012 by Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.  The report of the study published and said kidney stones increased more than fourfold among women and more than twofold among men.  From the result of study, young women age 18 to 39 had the highest increase and jumping from 62 to 252cases.

In Japan, number of kidney stone patients are also increased.  One in every seven men and one in every 15 women have kidney stone in their lifetime.

Dr. John Lieske, a professor of medicine at the Mayo clinic explained major cause of kidney stone are by genetic and some others are by environmental factors such as diet and not drinking enough fluid.

Patients had severe pain from lower back to the inner thigh when they have kidney stones.

For confirming a diagnosis of kidney stone, doctors use ultrasound and/or computed tomography(CT) scans.

For preventing kidney stones, doctors recommend staying hydrate and reduce sodium intake.

Dr. Lieske at Mayo Clinic said “drinking as much as 2 to 3 quarts of water per day can help remove small stones -- less than 3 millimeters in diameter -- by flushing out the urinary system.

For larger stones, however, more extensive treatment such as sound wave and surgery may be necessary”
