The article from BBC NEWS on 22nd of May, at least 10 people have died in the outbreak in Kozhikode where southwest part of India, formerly Calicut.  Two others who have tested positive are seriously ill and other 40 people have been put into quarantine.  Health authorities across Kerala have been on alert, and medical institutions have set up medical camp and control room for against Nipa virus.

Nipa virus is a newly emerging disease and first identified in 1999 during the outbreak of encephalitis and respiratory illness among pig farmers is hard to diagnose.  The virus transmitted to humans from animals mainly fruit bats. The symptoms of the infection are fever, headache, drowsiness, respiratory illness, disorientation and mental confusion.  These signs and symptoms of infection progress to coma within 24 to 48 hours.  At this point, there is no vaccine for both humans and animals.  Because of this, for protecting infection, people avoid contact with sick pigs and bats in epidemic areas and not drinking raw date palm sap.
