International Medical Evacuation ~Korea~

International Medical Transportation

It has been a long time since I have blogged!
How are you all doing?
Winter is over, spring is very short, and now we are having summer temperatures day after day.
It's April but the temperature is so high already…I wonder what the temperature will be like in the summer. (I am not good at summer...)

This time I would like to talk about medical evacuation from Korea.

Before that, let me tell you a little... When I tell my friends or my family that I do international medical evacuation, I am often told that it is a tough job, where I fly with patients and perform medical procedures on board the plane.
It is true that I perform medical treatment in an unusual environment, the medical equipment available on board is limited, and I am extremely nervous before every medical evacuation.
But actually, what is more difficult is the "preparation".

Our clinic often makes most of the preparations for medical evacuation by ourselves, including airline tickets and arrangements for ambulances on the Japanese side.
When we need to provide medical evacuation, we apply in advance to the airline company to which we plan to fly, submit medical certificates and other documents, and then ask for permission for medical evacuation. It may take several days to receive such permission. Because even if the medical certificate has been submitted once, it may have to be resubmitted if the patient's situation changes.
For patients who want to return to their home countries as soon as possible, we try to hurry up our preparations and adjust the schedule to meet their wishes as much as possible, but sometimes the preparations are halted while we wait for the response from the relevant authorities.

Despite our hasty preparations, we did not receive the airline's approval until the day before the medical evacuation!
I had already arrived in Korea on the day of the medical evacuation, and while I tried to act nonchalant, I was fretting in my heart about what I would do if the approval was not granted. lol
Of course, I told the patient's family that I did not have permission from the airline company, that I would enter Korea even though I did not have permission, and that I would not be able to provide medical evacuation without permission. Therefore, we were relieved with the family when we were informed that permission had been granted.
The subsequent medical transportation was uneventful.

As you can see, there is often a flurry of activity during the preparation stage!
Of course it is hard work during the medical evacuation, but the preparation is also very difficult, especially for me, who is not good at paperwork, and I have to check over and over again to see if there are any procedures that I have forgotten.

In this article, I would like to introduce a few of the preparations for medical transportation!
I feel like the temperature is going to get warmer and warmer... ministry.
Please take care that everyone does not get sick!

≪Talk about short private time≫
After work, I had dinner at a famous night market. As a Korean food lover, I was excited, but since I was eating alone on a nurses-only medical evacuation this time... it was still a bit lonely (;;)
(I recommend Tangsuyuk and Jjamppong, they are Korean Chinese food - if you go to Korea, please try them!)
