International medical evacuation ~UAE&Philippines~
International Medical Transportation
Hi there.
I joined this clinic in January.
We had international medical evacuations in March and May, so I would like to share those experiences
The medical evacuation in March was for a foreign patient returning to Abu Dhabi in the UAE. We flew there on a private plane, and the flight took about 12 hours.
This evacuation was arranged very suddenly the day before departure, so we had to prepare everything in a short amount of time.
I appreciate our doctor and nurses that prepared everything in such a short time.
As this is my first international medical evacuation, and considering the global situation in the region, I was nervous in many ways.
After arriving, we had a few unexpected experiences like getting lots of alerts on our phone and giving a ride to the airport from someone we happened to meet. Thankfully, my flight went smoothly, and we returned to Japan safely.
The evacuation in May was from the Philippines.
This case was supporting the return of a Japanese patient who had been staying there.
For this evacuation, I was involved in the preparation for the first time, and I realized how difficult the coordination process can be.
We had to adjust flight arrangements depending on the patient's condition, and scheduling was especially challenging because of public holidays in both countries.
Through repeated communication with the patient's family, both hospitals, and airline staff, I learned how much coordination is required to make medical evacuation possible. This experience made me realize how important preparation is.
On the day of evacuation, we traveled by both airline and ambulance, making it a very long journey from early morning until night.
It must have been exhausting for the patient, but thanks to their cooperation and effort, we were able to complete the evacuation safely.
The photo is taken at the airport during medical evacuation.
