Japanese Encephalitis

Health officials in Taiwan reported 2 additional cases of Japanese encephalitis.  Japanese Encephalitis is popular infectious disease mainly in Asia, and between 35,000 and 50,000 people are infected the disease every year. 

People are infected Japanese Encephalitis virus through mosquitos.

There are no symptoms between 6 and 16 days after infected.  Then symptoms such as high fever, headache, nausea, vomiting are showed up.  Then loss of consciousness, convulsions, abnormal behavior, and muscle rigidity are appeared.

There is no specific treatment for this infectious disease, so having vaccine is effective way to prevent from the disease.  The vaccine is effective for 3 to 4 years.  If you do not have the vaccine within 3 to 4 years and have a plan to go to Asian countries, it is very important to have it before going there.
