International Medical Evacuation Shiratama-Nurse~Philippines~

International Medical Transportation

Hi there.

It's been a while since I last posted.

This time I went to the Philippines. In fact, there were two International Medical Evacuations in one week, both of the cases were from the Philippines to Japan.

In fact, there are more medical evacuations from Southeast Asia to Japan than another countries. In my opinion, this is because the majority of people who work in Japan go on business trips to Southeast Asia, and because it is easy to get there in terms of distance, many people go there for vacations.

I would like to tell you about two transports of Philippines that took place from late February to early March, and a little yummy story. Both of the two transports I was in charge of this time were medical transports from the Philippines to Japan.

One patient was of Filipino nationality, but she had a family in Japan. The patient had suffered a stroke and was paralyzed in her left upper limb, and was in a bed during a local hospital stay. However, she arrived safely at a Japanese hospital, and rehabilitation began after she returned to Japan.

The other patient was a Japanese national who was about to start a short-term stay in the Philippines for work, but suddenly suffered from shortness of breath and was admitted to a local hospital where a chest drainage was inserted due to an unknown pleural effusion. The patient refused to undergo local examinations and treatments, and because he had underlying lung cancer, he wanted to undergo examinations and treatments in Japan, so he returned to his family hospital in Japan.

As a result, he was diagnosed with pleural effusion due to recurrence of lung cancer. He was recently informed that he has resumed chemotherapy and now started his work  in Japan.

Whenever I hear reports from patients who have returned safely to Japan and see patients smiling after being reunited with their families after a long flight or transport, I am strengthened by the importance of how medical evacuations are vital for the patients and relatives.

It is not just about "transportation".

The clinic has been very busy since mid-February, and in addition to outpatient care, we have been interviewed on television (Tokyo Television's "The Clinic Where You Can Find Your Own Doctor" will be aired on June 2nd (for now, but it can be changed)! Please check it out! ), and we have received multiple transport requests, so it has been a very fulfilling month.

Finally, I would like to dive into the delicious story that everyone is waiting for.

This was my first time in the Philippines, and I noticed that people don't eat many vegetables. Every restaurant I went to had meat! Rice! Bread! A parade of protein and carbohydrates. The food I found really delicious in the Philippines (chicken) was from a charcoal-grilled chain called INASAL, which is always full of people. One bite of the chicken is enough to captivate you with the savory flavor of the charcoal-grilled chicken.

I stayed in the Philippines for one business trip and had it for dinner and lunch at the same place. I think it was tastier than any other chicken-related chain restaurant in the Philippines, so if you visit the Philippines, please give it a try!
